Take Me Out to the Ballgame Tailgate Party Pictures from the Tailgate Party
"We want our alumni to feel connected to the BYU family, and our biggest benefit to the party was to provide a way for our young alumni to mingle with others who are similar ages and who likely have similar situations," says Curtis Isaac, program administrator. The 240 who attended became graduates within the last 10 years.
Cosmo was on hand the entire party to greet the young alums and Carmen Rasmussen showed the skills that took her to a fifth place finish on "American Idol." Jayson Edwards, an alumnus who won the BYU Student Entrepreneur of the Year competition for his innovative hot dogs, threw the first pitch of the game. He not only has an affinity for hot dogs, but also baseball. He proposed to his wife at a BYU baseball game.
Young alumni are invited to participate in the organization's service projects as well. The organization will help with caps and gowns during August graduation and assist with a celebration called BYU Day. Also planned is a football tailgate party in the Hinckley Center Sept. 20 when the Cougars play Wyoming.
The Young Alumni program includes BYU graduates of 10 years or fewer. This program provides a network for young alumni to connect to each other, to other alumni, and to job resources. Activities and programs have included Young Alumni sports teams, "Show Me the Money" financial planning seminars, service opportunities and the BYU Grad Guide publication.
Who is considered a young alumnus/alumna?Anyone who has earned at least 30 credits at BYU within the last 10 years is considered a young alumnus/alumna.
To fulfill its mission, the Board must be representative of the young alumni it serves, reflecting the diversity of BYU constituencies with a variety of degrees and a range of ages. Board members are drawn from the ranks of active young alumni in Utah County and neighboring counties.
Board members not only represent the diversity of young alumni, but also convene focused committees to bring that representation to bear on activities, initiatives, and policies that assist the Alumni Relations department and BYU in meeting their overall objectives.
